Eventful Spring. Come Join Us!

Here's "the haps" at your own Bay Area Doxeys...

Spring Recital. The kids' Spring Recital--THIS IS A LINK, CLICK ON IT went very well. Props to all. Nate and John are actually getting a lot better. They are taking piano from a 14 year old neighbor (Alisha De Lange, tall blonde on the back row, also a student of Julia's) so they feel they have to be a bit more accountable, which means they actually practice. It's a really great thing, for which we are grateful.
Preschool in Tilden Park. Liza's preschool class visited the farm in Tilden Park, feeding the animals, stepping in manure and such. Caroline may have even tasted the manure. She is going to be well prepped for preschool, for sure.

Liza has a really great class of kids. Stellar kids.

John Doxey, Quarterback, San Ramon Giants.
In a previous post, it was said that John was an awesome Nose Guard. True statement. However, his awesomely powerful arm has been discovered and lately he has been playing quarterback. He is a big kid, and therefore an intimidating kid for these wisps of boys to pursue. John is really calm in the pocket and pretty accurate. Floats it a bit, but he can get it there. When he runs the ball, he's the Jerome Bettis of San Ramon. Enough said.

Nate Doxey, Receiver, San Ramon Colts. Nathan is loving his flag football team, the San Ramon Colts. He has a REALLY good coach who has coached youth flag football for many years, and knows the mentality of youth football. He has them running precision drills, flag football specific drills which make the flags ever elusive.

We're talking a lot more than just spinning in traffic, he has them run a gauntlet of sorts where they have to get through without flag guarding. He really knows what he is doing and the boys really rally around him. Nate has two more games and they have been undefeated the whole season. Nate is scrappy, tenacious, scores a lot and is a sure handed receiver. Intimidated by no one on D. Fun times.

On to Sacramento. Nathan's 4th grade class recently visited Sacramento as part of their California history unit.

They were fortunate to be led around by a docent who actually was a Country Club and Cal High alum, so they got to see special stuff that most tours don't normally see, including the cabinet floor, pictures at the media relations podium, Governor Schwarzeneggar's office, etc. The government is a little broken, billions in debt but the architecture is AMAZING.

California Hall of Fame. Near the capitol, there is a famous State of California Hall of Fame slash history museum. Of course, George Lucas is perennially there, the real C3PO and R2D2, Indiana Jones memorabilia and the like. Kids loved it.

California Railroad Museum.
Of course, as part of their day in Sacto, they all toured the California Railroad Museum, which is actually really nice) to get into. It's like they say, "When you got to Railroad, you got to Railroad." So, it was really cool that Julia could be there with Nate and his class.

Old Town. Lest you think Nate and Julia are reenacting a bit of Call family history in Colonial Mexico, let it be known that they are actually making the best of a wild end of the 4th grade field trip. You see, a bus broke down, so their bus was taken away from them (Julia was a chaperon) and given to an even more stranded group of kids.

Nate, his class and the chaperons ended up being stranded at a park in Old Town Sacramento until they could catch the next stage out of town. They all made the best of it (as the are wont to do), stepping into an old time photo studio. The whole class got old time shots, billed to the bus company of course.
