Soccer, Soccer, Soccer!

As if you didn't know it, soccer season is officially upon us! Nate (#7) plays on the San Ramon Tornados (the same coach and team made up of a lot his school friends from last year) and John (#99) plays on the San Ramon Stars team.

I have to say that one of the best parts about it is that three sets of parents have kids on these two teams, so we'll get to know them quite well this year! This is Nate's 5th year in soccer...three teams/years in Utah and this is his second here. He's actually getting pretty good and had a great game yesterday. He's pretty happy that he even blocked a goalie kick with his massive pecs/torso, setting up a goal.

This is John's first year. I'm his assistant coach so that's a blast. He loves his uniform and feeling invincinble with his golden shin guards. He scored a goal in his first game and is pretty proud of that.

There is a boy from John's Primary class on his team, and another boy from Primary in his Kindergarten class so that's pretty cool. John LOVES kindergarten. Nate loves 2nd grade.

All three kids (and especially Julia) love living a short walk away from the school--it's amazing how much we're over there! Our stroller even has a garage door opener mounted on it b/c Julia is walking over to the school so often (picking up and dropping off, volunteering in the classrooms, ice cream socials, parent/teacher conferences..it's like her 2nd home). She serioiusly uses that stroller about as much as a car.

Back to Soccer for a minute ... there's an interesting little tidbit about the way Nate and John play--they both take more glory in ruining some kids' day by taking the ball away from him when he is on a breakaway headed toward the goal. Both are happy to let the strikers score all the goals, if they can just have that moment of ruining what is probably the happiest moment for some little kid. Chalk it up to defense.

Liza is a riot. As you can see, she loves her shoes and clothes (BTW--many thanks to all who are in this kid clothes rotation process that goes on among friends and family--it's a HUGE help). Liza sees all the little girls playing soccer with their pink cleats, pink soccer balls, etc. and just stares at them--she could care less what's going on with Nate and John. Then again, she is only 18 months so that's fitting.

Life is good.

what age did Nate start? It looks like Nate and John have started the "Glory Days". Have either of them asked for the hallowed and, of course, "retired" number "75"?

Nate started when he was 3 ... in the Pleasant Grove soccer league b/c they were short a few coaches. They said he could play at 3 if I coached, so that was the dealio.

TOO CUTE! Your boys look like they are loving it! Sports are a great thing! Liza has grown up so much! I wish we could see you guys more often, we were bummed that we missed you when you were in St. George! One of the many reasons why the blogs are so great!

I am not sure if I look forward to the day my boys start playing soccer. I know they'll love it - I just don't want it to take over my life!!!
